My interest in the interiors world started very naturally. I was always drawing floor plans of my bedroom when I was young, dragging around the furniture to rearrange it and using mum’s sewing machine to create cushion covers and accessories for my room. That then turned into me creating a folder of my favourite interior photos, torn out of mum’s magazines! Today’s replacement of that folder is my love affair with Pinterest!
I get such a buzz from discovering Australian designers and makers and immersing myself in their worlds and work. I started my blog, getinmyhome, in mid 2012 as a way of sharing their stories.
I was studying my Master of Communications at RMIT and learning for the first time about the world of technology – video editing, website making and blog publishing.
getinmyhome was my way of exploring this new digital world I was discovering, and choosing to focus my energy on interiors felt only natural. It was such a thrill in those early days to connect with bloggers and fellow design lovers the world over.
In 2016, I took my interest in interiors further by studying ‘Interiors – Design & Decoration for Living‘ at RMIT, followed by short courses at the International School of Colour & Design here in Melbourne.
Come 2017, and I started working with Metricon Homes as a video presenter and event host alongside their wonderful team – who are just as passionate as me about creating homes that people love to live in.
Over the years, getinmyhome has been awarded with international blogging awards and listed in numerous ‘best of’ lists of blogs – which is always a rush of pride and excitement.
This review of getinmyhome by domino magazine is one of my favourite:
This site is a cool girl’s modern dream—and exactly the right dose of Aussie inspo everyone needs in their life. Expect to find beautiful interiors that will work for any space and lots of products from Australia-based small businesses.
As is this one from Global Design Post:
With a designer’s eye and a marketer’s foresight, Emily Osmond finds the best – and we mean the best! – products and interiors in Australia. Energetic and bright, her site is a feast of the coolest, hippest, most drool-worthy products that she has discovered, along with interviews with the creators, sources (so you can get your own hot little hands on them) and boundless photos of interiors you will want to slip right into.
Alongside getinmyhome, I also work as a marketing strategist and teacher under my name, Emily Osmond, which is my way of working even more closely with those creatives, makers and industry-leading brands that I most admire.
