An outdoor cinema, teepees and pink cupcakes – what more could a three year old want for her birthday party? I just love the bright, big curtains framing the TV, the child-level tables decorated with craft paper and bunches of garden flowers in recycled tins and the Indian headdresses for each invitee. Take a look at this magical children’s birthday party, courtesy of one of my new favourite blogs, Lay Baby Lay. Photos: Lay Baby Lay

I was flicking through the latest Country Style magazine the other day (thanks mum for subscribing!) and in the back section where there’s often advertisements for comfort bras, wigs and furniture polish was the most beautiful little picture of dreamy upholstered furniture. So straight to the laptop I went to do some investigating and it ended with me now being head over heels with an inspirational Australian furniture and homewares online retailer. Lavender Hill Interiors started just a year ago and its carefully selected products from across the world are already being featured in countless glossy magazines, online blogs and…

I was very lucky to receive a little package in the letterbox the other day – a beautiful, glossy book all about interiors and ‘enjoying the journey’. Although finding the time to sit down and indulge in a read is often hard to find, there’s nothing like the feel of a real book in these days where we consume most of our information online or on the go via our smartphones. Melbourne-based Bronnie Masefau is a mum of three, a best-selling author and identifies as ‘more of a homemaker than an interior designer’. You may have seen her previous titles, ‘Australian…

Who would have thought that the humble fig would become such an object of desire? And how about the pomegranate? The once ‘exotic’ fruit is firmly planting itself on the pages of the glossiest food and lifestyle magazines. You just have to flick through the recipes pages, cooking shoots or the latest advertisements to see the fig and pomegranate peering juicily out at you. Of course, it should come as no surprise these two are having a ‘moment’ – you just have to take a look at that fleshy skin and those pearly, pink seeds to know they are a…

One of the best things to do for interior inspiration is to go look at show homes. They often have the highest-end additions included and luxe finishes which can help you look at design with fresh inspiration. Looking around these houses can also help you work out what you don’t like. But most of all, they can invigorate you to do something different in your home, like adding hanging wooden planks, bird-nest light shades or studded upholstered chairs to take restrained and plain to textile-rich and eclectic.  Here are some pics from my stroll around the new Insignia Estate in Ballarat…

There is a fair chance that once again this year that dog-eared tinsel has snuck its way into the Christmas decorations and is shining its brash green and red metallic around the house. Can’t get enough of IKEA? Well move in! It’s no fantasy, the Swedish furniture giant – IKEA – plans to build an entire neighbourhood in London next year. LandProp, part of the Inter IKEA Group has started to clear 26-acres of unused industrial land in Stratford, just south of Olympic Park.  The self-contained, prototype community will house shops, cafés and a 350-room hotel. And leave the car behind, because London’s  ‘mini-Venice’ will make the most of the waterside site by using moorings, a water taxi service, and a floating cocktail bar. Driving into the community, you’ll head straight to an underground garage, keeping the roads…

Three days ago I was mid-way through emailing an artist whose work I came across on The Design Files, Australia’s emerging equivalent of the ever-enlivening apartmenttherapy – in my books that is. I was writing to ask if I could feature the Melbourne-based company on getinmyhome. While typing away, I realised I wanted to know more about Lumiere Art + Co. The 33-year old owner/maker/designer kindly agreed to an interview, and this morning I asked questions of the lovely Emma Cleine.  The result is getinmyhome’s first artist interview. I am also excited to be the first to announce Lumiere Art + Co’s upcoming launch night of…
