One of Australia’s most popular (and eco-friendly!) furniture brands has finally opened its doors in Melbourne!
Jardan‘s flagship store sits firmly in Richmond’s furniture and design precinct and makes a statement from the street, spanning across two levels. Step inside however, and you feel like you’re right at home (only better, much better).
It’s the largest store yet, adding to those in Sydney and Brisbane. The space is divided into an open plan kitchen, library, indoor courtyard and a fun and colourful kids space. Nick says the space is not just a store, more so a place to relax, talk and contemplate.
Brothers and managing directors Nick and Mike Garnham, alongside creative manager Renee Brown, wanted to showcase Jardan’s most covetable classics, along with launching a new collection of homewares from local and international artisans.
The 2014/15 collection designed by Jardan Lab made its debut in-store, comprising handcrafted furniture in pure forms. Meanwhile, the Jardan lighting range is extended with new brass pendants, glass pendants and turned timber lamps – all designed and made in Melbourne. New homewares include bed linen, locally-made ceramics, Italian cookware and cutlery, handmade cushions and blankets from Argentina, Australian-made surfboards and a collection of art, photography and illustrations.
But we don’t just love Jardan for its design. Long distinguished for its sustainability record, the company has achieved Australia’s highest possible environmental rating including being accredited as a Carbon Neutral organisation in 2014.
Testament to this, architect Iva Foschia of IF Architecture stripped back the building and installed marble from Chillagoe in North Queensland, Australian blackbutt timber and lime paint by Bauwerk from Western Australia that cures by taking carbon dioxide from the air. This means that Jardan’s walls are free from plastics and toxins. Bauwerk’s products and approach matches Jardan’s philosophy of making small meaningful changes everyday.
So it’s time to fall in love with Jardan (if you’re not already smitten).
