One of my favourite homeware brands, klaylife, not just because of its gorgeous clay beaded chandeliers, but also for its positive contribution to a small South African community, has launched its latest collection!
Excitingly, klaylife has just launched its very first lighting design collaboration with an interior stylist. Working with Jacqui Moore of Moore Concepts, who has worked for Australia’s top interiors magazines and brands, the collaboration introduces vibrant new clay bead colours – in teal and blush – and modern shapes including spheres and barrels that can be clustered together or suspended as single pendants.
Looking at the images below you’ll see Scandinavian and tribal influences, plus luxe, rich colour palettes. klaylife has also introduced barrel-shaped floor and table lamps to their range!
Each bead that forms klaylife’s products is formed using raw clay local to the small South African community who makes them. The clay is then rolled by hand before being sun-dried, kiln-fired and dip-dyed. Hundreds of these beads are then strung onto a special iron frame to complete a single chandelier. This extensive, handcrafted process means that no two lights will ever be the same.
Since its launch two years ago, this Melbourne-based brand, run by South African-born father and daughter Phillip Jones and Kerri Wallace, has enjoyed great success, and is stocked with retailers like Husk, Curious Grace, LuMu Interiors, and Click On Furniture to name a few. Most importantly, through the sale of each chandelier, jobs have been created for the people in Kwa Zulu Natal.
