I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for a fabric bedhead! They add timeless elegance and a touch of luxe to the bedroom. Plus of course, from a practical perspective, they’re much softer to rest against than wood or iron!
So naturally, when I came across Heatherly Design, I had to share! It’s a company that has brought unique bedhead designs and a ‘design your own’ service to the local market. And can you believe, it employs four full time upholsterers!
Founder Georgie Leckey initially trained as a textile merchandiser, but it was when she was working as an interior designer in 2007 that she established Heatherly Design.
Starting in her family’s country woolshed, Georgie quickly outgrew this rustic space and decided to move her office and upholstery studio to an outer Melbourne suburb, where she now commutes.
Georgie says its being able to offer clients the option to take on the role of designer that has helped the company’s success.
“The beauty of what we offer our clients is exceptional quality locally made and designed to client’s specifications – we have created a niche in the market that more and more people are taking advantage of.
Anyone can buy a normal bed or bedhead, but having one made to your specifications is no longer a luxury. We have really seen this type of personal service become more and more part of interior design and are amazed by how far and wide our bespoke service has gone with designs being delivered as far as Alice Springs and Perth.”
Starting with three bedhead designs, Heatherly Design now offers over twenty designs including fully upholstered beds, footstools, shoeboxes, bedroom chairs and co-ordinating valances.
Manufacturing and supporting local industry and artisans is something that Georgie isn’t willing to sacrifice. She says it’s important to her clients too.
“From day one I have always strived to keep my product locally crafted using time honoured techniques, not mass manufactured from a factory. It’s what the bespoke service is all about and one that I continue to proudly uphold.”
