Milk & Sugar, founded by Melburnians Peter Sinclair and Cameron Taylor, is a high-quality and style focused homewares brand, with a newly released (and stunning!) Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, inspired by Australian style, minimalism and timeless design.
Launching the first product range in 2008, what began as an idea and a small range of handmade bamboo salad bowls has grown to cover everything from home textiles and rugs to tableware, photographic prints, lighting and many categories in between.
The duo started the brand as a way to tailor-make products to suit their own design aesthetics, and still going strong after almost 10 years, Peter and Cameron are most proud of the upcoming Autumn/Winter 2017 collection.
Cameron says:
“We’re thrilled about the latest collection – it’s definitely our most grown-up yet and believe our customers will love it as much as we do, ”
The newest collection sees Milk & Sugar go back-to-basics with each piece displaying its own individual strength. The collection has a strong sense of simplicity tied together with a design emphasis on texture, touch and feel, natural fabrics and the quality materials.
Made using high-quality, yet affordable materials, Milk & Sugar’s textiles feature stone-washed cotton for increased softness and flexibility as well as a cotton/linen blend and felted wool for resilience and durability.
Inspired by some of their recent travels to Japan, Los Angeles and New York, Peter and Cameron were quite taken by what they saw as a new perspective on the minimalist approach.
Cameron explains:
“We wanted to put an Australian twist on aesthetics we had seen throughout our overseas travels.” “We brought the attention back to the product’s basic foundation and focused on creating a collection full of pieces that we like to think of as trend-less; meaning they will stand the test of time.”
The duo are proud of the local, Australian design aesthetic and believe it’s one of the best in the world.
They believe:
“The Australian aesthetic is minimal but colourful. For a nation with such a small population compared to the rest of the world, we have a thriving interior and design community and we could not be more proud to be part of it.”
So, what is next for Milk & Sugar? Peter and Cameron want to keep doing what they’re doing – refining their skills, designing better products and launching new collections… and we hear on the grape vine that there’s the possibility of expanding the brand’s retail stores interstate. The Milk & Sugar Autumn/Winter collection drops in-store between late March – May. Watch this space!
