I was fortunate enough to be invited to a special Mother’s Day breakie at Mozi in Melbourne Central to explore the gorgeous homeware ranges. I fell in love with the ‘Folklorian’ collection – inspired by the rich artistic traditions of the Otomi women of Mexico.
I’m normally one for minimal design, but the floral prints and beautiful ‘Odile, the evil antagonist’ – with thick black hair, porcelain skin and an intricately patterned gown, had me entranced. Needless to say, I walked away with a fair little stash of the range and when I gifted them to Mum today, I had requests for more by my sisters (lucky I have a few at home in the ‘present box’)!
Mozi is a success story of two Melbourne sisters. In 2005, Camilla and Olivia Tipler decided it was time to use their talents to create a homewares and lifestyle brand unique to Australia and the world.
Taking over their father’s garage and turning it into a makeshift office and production line, they began crafting a range of products that were soon picked up by an adoring fan base including retailers, magazines, celebrities (and of course their Dad)!
The ladies drew inspiration from their childhood full of pets, farm adventures and travels. Today, their whimsical and distinctive designs create such great gift and homeware goodies. If you ever find yourself asking ‘what on earth can I buy my friend/sister/aunt/grandma/mother/colleague?’… Mozi could be your new go-to, too!
