There’s nothing like a bit of colour to make you happy, and that’s exactly what Bonnie and Neil is all about.
Melbourne-based duo Bonnie Ashley and Neil Downie founded their independent textile design studio in 2010, with their backgrounds in floristry, art, textiles, furniture and set design flowing through to their incredibly lively cushions, bed linen, napery, timber and ceramic homewares.
The couple initially launched their range at one of Melbourne’s biggest homewares tradeshows. And it’s no surprise that their designs have been in demand ever since!
I first discovered B&N from watching last year’s The Block renovation reality show (one of my obsessions). Remember Trixie and Johnno’s first bedroom reveal? If not take a look. The combination of natural plywood and vivid colour and print (especially as crosses were so in last year) packed a memorable punch.
Bonnie and Neil’s approach to design is intuitive, involving a mix of traditional printing methods pared with unique applications. Each release incorporates botanical motifs, bright patterns and often pays tribute to Australiana culture.
Bonnie’s eye for design sees her use patterns that are otherwise overlooked in everyday life, whilst Neil is all simplicity and taking care of the timber aspect of the business.
Self-confessed hoarders, the couple also focus on creating sustainale, functional products that can be enjoyed for years to come.
Today the pair supplies 150 stockists within Australia and around the world – all designed and hand screen printed in their Brunswick studio.
They’ve been featured on three of my favourite blogs: The Design Files once or twice, The Interiors Addict and The Collective.
Enjoy!
