Turn your house into a holiday home (no airfares required) – relaxed, outdoorsy and carefree. #getinmyhome

Apparently the largest boost to happiness that comes from holidaying is in the planning. Researchers from the Netherlands found that the effect of vacation anticipation boosted happiness for eight weeks while even relaxed holidays didn’t affect post-trip happiness levels.

The advice, says Mr. Nawijn, the report’s author, is to plan smaller trips throughout the year.

Even if you are lucky enough to be booking up the Bahamas, why save your holiday buzz for the planning? Make your home a place you look forward to being in: a place for relaxation, leisure and carefree living.

The tips:

Neutral colours – white walls, naked wood, Aztec cushions

Natural fabrics – canvas couches, wicker baskets, woven rugs

Hints of hobbies – guitars, surfboards, magazines on display

Easy living – rugs for bare-feet, throws at hand, un-fussy accessories for functionality not glamour

Inside out & outside in – undressed windows, outdoor living spaces, plants inside.

What a lovely collection – I adore the combination of white, timber/stone and old/distressed in interiors.
